Year 6 Enterprise Project

The children in Year 6 would like to thank you for your support as they carried out their Enterprise Project. They really enjoyed setting up their own mini businesses, buying produce and creating a healthy snack to sell. Each group was initially given £5 by Mrs Corr to set up their business and after paying their £5 back, the class made a total profit of £82.70 which they have decided to spend on a bench for children to enjoy for years to come at All Saints.

Head Boy and Girl Interviews

headboygirl

Sid, Meera (our current Head Boy and Girl) and I were so impressed this week with the Year 5 children who were interviewed for the posts of Head Girl and Boy for next year. It was a very difficult decision to shortlist to  3 boys and 3 girls to go forward to the presentation which will be in assembly on Thursday 27th June. Once the presentations have been delivered the election campaign then starts until the vote which is held on Wednesday 10th July. I was so proud of all of the children involved as the whole of year 5 celebrated the successes but supported those who were disappointed, it was so lovely to see the class working as such a close team. I would like to thank those who were brave enough to put themselves forward and good luck to the six children who have moved forward.

Visit from Peter Bone, Wellingborough's  MP!!

Last Friday we were very fortunate to have Peter Bone, the MP for Wellingborough spend the afternoon with our Year 5 and 6 children. As you all know we have been learning about the environment this term and the children had written accounts posing the arguments for and against Wind Farms. Mr Bone had previously been interviewed by the BBC presenting a negative viewpoint of wind farms. A brilliant debate was had by the childrrenand they asked some very challenging questions.

windfarm

On Friday the 7th June, Peter Bone came to visit our Year 5 and 6 children. Peter Bone is the Wellingborough Member of Parliament and British Conservative Party Politician. He spoke to them about his perspective on Wind Turbines and what encouraged him to become an MP. He talked about how he'd rather Wind Turbines were at sea where no one could see them and where they wouldn't ruin the beautiful countryside. The children asked some very intimidating questions that challenged Peter Bone, as well as every child that spoke had to say Mr Speaker stand up. The children enjoyed many things including:

  • Peter Bone giving honest opinions
  • The fact that Peter Bone spoke about Teresa May and whether she should have resigned.
  • That they could vote if they like wind turbines or not.

Peter Bone even commented on how impressed he was with the children's questions, enthusiasm, confidence and most importantly their behaviour and said that it was a pleasure to meet us.

ROCK  UK

Our year 3 and 4 children left last Wednesday for a three day residential at Rock UK. I visited last night and what an incredible time they had. Residentials are something that children always remember and they are an opportunity not to be missed. Not only do the children have the chance to experience activities they have never tried before they learn so many life skills connected to being away from home.

Judaism

On Tuesday we had a visitor who led a morning themed around Judasim. It is very important part of life at All Saints that we share a knowledge and therefore understanding of other faiths. We as a school believe it is vital that we support children in respecting those who have a different faith to Christianity. The children all had the opportunity to participate in a workshop which was age appropriate.

However insead of requesting a donation of £1, we would like each child to bring in their favourite bedtime story to share with their friends.

Please make sure their books are named and they still have appropriate footwear (eg: school shoes, trainers, no open toe sandles)

ALL SAINTS   SPORTS  DAY

Sports Day was a brilliant, fun, action packed day which was organised so well by Mr Chambers. I think it is so important that children all have the opportunity to participate in sporting activities and then to have some competitive element which was seen in the classroom. It is vital that children know how to manage when they dont win and how to celebrate others successes. Again thank you to all of you who took the time to enjoy the day and support all of the children.

Father Tony

This was a week that the school said goodbye to our lovely Father Tony. Father Tony has been connected to All Saints school since 2001, having moved to the All Saints Church after being a prison chaplain at Wellingborough prison. The children and staff have been fortunate to have shared our services and assemblies with Father Tony and we will miss him very much.

On Wednesday our service was both a celebration and a thank you for the work that he has done. It was brilliant and every child in the school was involved in some way. Our choir was outstanding and in particular some of our younger children read and performed with such confidence it was a delight to see.

IMG 0960

During the Service, presentations were mady by the children but also by Mr Bob Townson the Chair of Governors and by Mrs Sarah Boddington on behalf of the parents. A huge thank you to all of you who contributed towards Father Tony's gift, we collected just about £100 and a gift card for a B&Q was purchased. This, along with a gift from the staff which was also a voucher, Father Tony will use for gardening items for his new house in Rushden. I would also like to thank al of you who attended on Wednesday afternoon and then joined us for tea and cake at the church hall with Father Tony and his family.

The church wardens at All Saints are currently in the process of recruiting a new vicar and we hope that the successful applicant wll be in post by the end of the year. We are very fortunate that during this period we have other members of the team at All Saints who are able to come into school to continue with assemblies and support us at the church during special services.

'SEND A COW'   CHARITY DAY

send

Today the children came into school in Black and White Mufti clothes to support Einstein's charity day:  'Send a Cow'.They were also able to make a cow, using a 1 pint milk bottle. They could put their spare change in it (which presented us with extra money for the charity)

We were lucky enough to have a visitor - Sandra Herbert - who supports Send a Cow and lives on a farm in Leicestershire. She explained to us why her charity is important and how a small amount of money could hugely benefit a new generation.

The 'Send a Cow' charity is a charity which has been establised for over 30 years, they have transformed the lives of 2 million people in Africa. They focus on farming and families, resultng in confident people in control of their own land and of their own futures.

In the afternoon the children created posters, poems and fact files to promote the charity. Overall, it was a brilliant day that helped save lives.

What a fantastic charity to be supporting, well done Enstein.

ALLSAINTS  VISIT  FROM

JANE  CLARKE!!!

Today saw us celebrate 'World Book Day' with a visit from Jane Clarke the author. She entertained us all in assembly & shared with us many funny stories.

IMG 0930

She also talked about how when she was younger she disliked writing and found it difficult, showing all of us that just because we might find something tricky when we are younger it doesnt mean that as we grow up they will continue to be something that we are not good at, Jane also shared with us how many times she rewrites her stories, sometimes up to 15 times again showing us the importance of redrafting and editing work.

IMG 0938    IMG 0939

IMG 0941    IMG 0951

Each class had the opportunity to work with Jane throughout the day learning how to develop story ideas and the writing process.

At the end of the day, the children were able to purchase her books and get them signed by Jane her self.

I think a fun day was had by all.

FFF

How lovely to see so many parents/famly members in school this morning for our Writing FFF. 95 children in the school had someone here to engage in our writing themed activities. Here are some samples of work completed by children across the school this morning.

100 Word Story of The Ugly Duckling ugly

One day, a few ducklings hatched but one duckling, which was ugly, was the odd one out. As they grew, they played together. The odd duckling was left out."I wish I could play with those beautiful swans!" The ugly odd duckling said. "How is that duckling over there so ugly?" the beautiful swans said. Many months passed: his mother (who felt bad) finally stood up "Let him play- he's doing no harm!" "No. He's ugly" As he grew, the beautiful swans complimented him and it made him realise he was a beautiful swan. They lived happily ever after.

JANE CLARKE IS VISITING ALL SAINTS!!!

On Thursday 7th March to celebrate 'World Book Day' we are planning another author visit for the children. Jane Clarke author of 'Gilbert the Great' and other brilliant titles is visiting us to talk about her books, she is also arranging some fun workshops to share with the children.

Jane is an English writer of children's books and was born in Kettering, Northamptonshire. Jane has published over 45 books including works used for children's reading schemes in schools.

Afterwards there will be an opportunity for the children to purchase a book and get it dedicated and signed to them by Jane. A signed book can be a permanent reminder of a special experience and can reinforce the message about the importance of reading. If your child would like to purchase a book, please make sure they bring in some money on the day. The books will range in price from £4.00 to £7.00. If your child already owns a book written by Jane then they are more than welcome to bring them along for Jane to sign. We are sure you will agree this is another opportunity not to be missed and the children can look forward to a very exciting 'World Book Day'.

                                  OUR      THEME

Our theme for our collective worship sessions is coming to an end and we are changing the focus to "Love".

There were many brilliant examples of "Thankfulness" from the children across the school, many of whom could of been worthy winners. However amongst all of those amazing examples one person stood out. Julia in our Hornbeam class showed maturity in her thoughts and in particular was thankful of her parents of many things but particularly for allowing her to attend All Saints. Well done Julia.

YOUNG  VOICES  AT  THE      02

What an incredible experience we had at the 02 arena. One hundred of us contributed to a choir of over 7000 children creating an incredible sound. I was so impressed with how the children all managed a very long day and I was so proud of each of them. Not only did they represent the school brilliantly with perfect behaviour, lovely manners and respect towards others, their listening skills were absolutely excellent. As you can imagine when all 7000 children start to leave a venue it can be very challenging but all of the All Saints children listened to the adults and we moved to the coaches without any problems. Of course the singing was excellent but I knew that would be the case as they have been so impressive in rehearsals. My coach enjoyed a run through of the songs on the way down and we watched "The Greatest Showman" on the way back.

IMG 20190131 190356

I would like to thank the 9 members of staff who volunteered to accompany the children with me. Without these staff members being prepared to work for free we wouldnt be able to run these activities. Thank you to the parents who have sent such kind messages also we do really appreciate these.

WELL  DONE  TO  HORNBEAM!!

Well done to our Hornbeam class this week who put together, along with Mrs Dady a lovely class assembly. We saw some very talented writers and listened to some fabulous pieces of writing. Thank you to the parents and family members who came along to support their children.

All about Dojo Points and Class Dojo!!

All children on a Monday start with 10 Dojo points which is the amount needed to attend the Golden Time session on a Friday.

Points are awarded for:

  • Showing the collective worship value
  • Helping others
  • Being either a responsible citizen, successful learner or confident individual
  • Completing daily mile
  • Showing perseverance
  • Having a piece of work in the Hall of Fame book

Children can loose points for:

  • The steps on the behaviour chart,so for example 1 point deducted for a one on the chart. This also includes lunchtime
  • using inapproprate language
  • Persistent Lateness
  • Not following the Golden 5
  • Uniform including PE kit

If children end the week with 10 or more points they will attend Golden Time. However if Homework and reading activities have not been completed despite the access made available during school time through three homework sessions, Golden Time will not be allowed for those children.

Golden Time consists of a period of time on a Friday afternoon starting at 2.40 and ending at 3.10pm.

You should all now have received a letter and activation code for the Dojo point system that we have in school. This code will enable you to access the system and see how your child is doing throughout the week. You will be able to see what they are awarded points for and also when points are removed. This should update by the end of Friday.

There are various different parts to the Class Dojo application that you now have access to through your parent account. We wil be using the app to show the childrens points each Friday.

You wil not see any points until the first full week has been completed on the Friday.

The parent area does give you the option to message teachers through the application however class teachers will still only be using their work email address and planners so please do not use the application for this.

Also there is a portfolio section where you can add pictures etc. Once again we will not be using this feature at this time.

  REMEMBRANCE  DAY

All of this week as part of our "Conflict" theme the children across the school have been focussing on the 100 year anniversary of the First World War and have created a display of poppy artwork along the long corridor. This is such an important time of year not just to remember those who represented our country during the First and Second World War but also those currently affected as a result of serving in the armed forces. We are awaiting an extra addition to our fabulous display by the entrance gate so keep your eyes peeled for that. A big thank you to the staff involved also with the Poppy work a brilliant example of teamwork.

Student Librarian visit to Wellingborough library

Today the student librarians visited Wellingborough library, Owen, Amelia, Zuzanna and myself and a lovely tour from Dee the librarian, the tour involved looking at books with large prints, fiction, non fiction, children and teenage sections, we even witnessed a couple getting married. The children learned how books are issued out, renewed and returned, they had the chance to issue their own books out on the self service issue machine.

If you are interested in your child joining Wellingborough library then please Click Here  for a letter. This must be filled in and returned to Wellingborough library.

The children also did their very own Christmas display of books with headings designed by them selves.

At the end of the visit the children enjoyed a tour of the upstairs with a well earned drink and biscuit they were even allowed to come down the spiral staircase!!! Dee presented them with a badge each. We all left full of enthusiasm for our own library......

THANK YOU!!

Thank you so much for all of the delicious cakes you donated on Wednesday for the Macmillan coffee morning and to celebrate the opening of our Forest Den.

We raised a fantastic £213.27!!!

A big thank you to members of the Learning Council for working alongside Mrs Boddington in organising and running this fabulous event. Some of you may remember Mrs Boddington applying to Tescos for funding for the den last year and we were successful in receiving a large pot of money by shoppers at Tescos placing the blue coins in the box. Father Tony gave the building a blessing and I had the pleasure of cutting the ribbon albeit with a rather blunt pair of scissors.

PETERBOROUGH  CATHEDRAL  TRIP

This week we saw a group of our choir perform at Peterborough Cathedral in front of hundreds of other children and staff from church Schools across the Diocese. Along with All Saints from Northampton we were the only Primary School asked to contribute to this great honour. The children were brilliant and I was extremely proud of each and every one of them. They all showed our three values of confident individuals, responsible citizens and successful learners in abundance. What incredible representatives of the school they were!!

Wednesday 26th September

As a way of celebrating the new Forest School Area, we are holding a cake sale in line with the Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan

On Wednesday we will be running a cake sale throughout the morning where children can buy cakes using money they have brought to school.

After school, during the welcome meetings, Mrs Boddington will be around so that you can see the Forest School area and the improvements that have been made. She will also be able to answer any questions you may have:

We would really appreciate Cake donations to the office on Wednesday morning please.

Junk modelling request

Our new children in Acorn (Nursery) and Oak (Reception) have made a fantastic start to the term, so much that they are whizzing through all of our junk modelling materials.

If you have any boxes, tubes or anything you think we could use in our junk modelling, please can you send it into either the Acorn or Oak class in a carrier bag.

Thanks for your help!!

DAILY  MILE

Next week we will be starting our Daily Mile programme. At All Saints we strongly believe in the benefits of exercise in children and there is no better or easier way to exercise than running. That is why every morning we will be opening the gates from 8.20am - 8.45am to allow you and your child to access the background and either run, jog or walk (or 10.-15 mins if you prefer!)

This little bit of exercise will benefit your child immensely by:

  • Improving their fitness and strength
  • Improving their ability to learn
  • Improving their mood
  • Helping to maintain a healthy weight
  • Burning off their excess energy
  • and many more!

We would love to see as many of you there as possible (adults too!) and the children can also earn Dojo points towards their Golden Time just for taking part.

This is a faboulous opportunity for us to embed a brilliant habit of daily exercise that  your child will carry out throughout their life.

The programme will run every day, all year. No need to book,  just turn up!

Parents must stay with their children.
